Tripod sitting

The onbuhimo requires the child to good "trunk" control. This is when baby is able to tripod sit. As soon as they do this, you can put them in the onbuhimo!

Standard size Onbuhimo

baby

Baby/standard size is a universal size of the carrier - it will fit an infant (who can tripod sit) as well as an older child. We recommend this size for children from 4 months until 2T pant length

Toddler size onbuhimo

Recommended for kiddos who are wearing a 2t pant size and mamas who want a snug comfortable fit.

Preschool Size onbuhimo

This carrier is much bigger than the toddler size. It will fit as small as 2T pants, but for parents who are small or only using this in the house, we recommend using this size when child is 3t-4t in pant length.

*Important information*

If you have never used an Onbuhimo, be prepared to practice with this carrier style. It is a more challenging style of carrier to use. It takes some patience and practice. Most people do not get it right the first time.

Fit-check photos can be posted in our Facebook group, or emailed to us. We have a group of others who will gladly help give you some tips and tricks, and sometimes they have a faster response time.

The Onbuhimo carrier is not the perfect style of carrier for everyone. You will only be using your shoulders to support your baby. The best way that we can explain how this carrier will feel on your body is to describe it as a bookbag packed full of books. If carrying a bookbag full of books would hurt your back soon after putting it on, we highly recommend looking at an SSC-style carrier like the LennyLight.

This style carrier may cost a little bit more but offers much more support since it has a waistband. The waistband will allow your whole torso to support your child’s weight. The SSC-style carrier also makes getting a comfortable fit for the caregiver and child much easier.

We hope this helps! Please reach out if you have any questions.

AMAZING!!!

This is an amazing baby carrier. I've used so many... ergo baby, ring sling, boba wrap, solly baby wrap, Podaegi... so I think I know a thing or two. The fabric is amazing. I got the smaller size and low key both my 10 month old and my 2.5 year old fit in it if I change the strap lengths. This is a lifesaver for needing to get things done or carry my toddler in my arms while having the little baby on my back. So comfortable too - I've struggled with back pain with baby wearing but this one doesn't hurt at all. THANK YOU!!!

Thank you so much for your helpful review! We're so glad you're finding the carrier comfortable and helpful, yay! Love it! Thank you again, and have a wonderful day!

My new favorite carrier!

My chunky 1yo finally outgrew my Wildbird Aerial so I was looking for a toddler onbuhimo. I ordered the Lenny Lamb onbuhimo from Mama & Roo and I am so glad I did! I had some questions about the order and they responded quickly and sent me some amazing resources for learning to use the carrier. And the carrier is my new favorite! So soft and comfortable, and my toddler loves it too. I will definitely be ordering from Mama & Roo again!

Thank you so much! So glad you're enjoying your new carrier, and so happy we could provide you the support you needed! Thanks so much for being here, and we look forward to sending you your next Mama & Roo's carrier when you're ready =).

Lovely Material - can’t seem to get it to work.

I found this carrier; researched the company and their different styles. Saved my money and purchased.

I cannot get it to work. I have been exchanging emails with customer service and still can’t get it to work. It was suggested that I go down a size. Which doesn’t make sense according to the company’s sizing.

At first I couldn’t get him high enough and his legs would come away with marks from the carrier. I get him high enough; it definitely takes practice, but I cannot figure why it’s marking his legs this way other than design….
Overall:
The material is lovely(5stars). My son loves to be carried; I don’t want his legs looking like that though. They have marks from where the legs go through carrier straps. (3 stars)
Customer service was good but I now haven’t had a response about a solution other than to order a size down. I based my sizing off their chart. (3stars).

When I spend $200 on a carrier; I just have a different level of expectation. I really wanted this to work. I’m so petite I have a hard time finding ones that work and fit my waist. The waist less seemed like a perfect choice.

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback! It looks like you reached out to our customer service for the first time regarding this on Saturday, and we replied to you that same day. Our automated system provided our returns policy and returns portal link immediately, which is great! We have 0 incentive to deny a customer when they want to make a return for a returnable item, so that's why we always include those links upfront, along with support, and why we have the returns links available on every page of our site =).

It looks like we have responded multiple times to your concerns, each within about a day or less. We're a small business, and we're moms! We aren't always able to reply immediately, but we do always provide the best support we're able to when we do.

I'm not sure what you mean with the returns portal reasons - we like to know why people want to return so that we can update any product descriptions or other information that might help more customers in the future. There should be something like 'I do not like it' as an option, which should cover most other things! =)

It does look like you have not yet been provided our full troubleshooting guide. I will touch base with Amanda to make sure she has this! And I will send that over to you as well. The Preschool Onbuhimo is a newer model, so not all of our documentation reflects the uniqueness of this design compared to the standard and toddler sizes. We will work on a more detailed tutorial specifically for the Preschool Onbuhimo size. But, I will send you our general onbuhimo guide as well.

Regarding the sizing - every child is unique. That said, we strongly recommend that children be solidly in 3T or even 4T for pants length before trying the Preschool size Onbuhimo - it is the largest carrier we have. Weights should not be used for sizing alone as they are only safety ratings, not sizing. I'm not sure exactly how big your child is, but, I can provide more detail in my reply to you there regarding options. In general, 'close' to maxing out does change dramatically as our children get older - growth slows considerably after a year and even more after 2 years, so depending where your little one falls, you may still have a long way! Often when a child just isn't fitting in a carrier, despite doing everything right, it just isn't the right size. We want parents and children to feel comfortable and supported, so we always advocate for the best fitting size right now, as that is the safest and most enjoyable for everyone!

This is a very difficult carrier to learn for beginners. I'm not sure if that's you! But, that is a factor as well. I will also send our recommendations for alternate styles that may suit you better.

Thank you again! My 'mom duties' are calling, so I cannot reply to your support ticket right now. We also are in the hurricane path, so I have been losing internet off and on and won't be able to assist until that issue stays resolved. But, I will reply to your other message as soon as I am able to and will send you those resources. And, of course, you are welcome to submit a return on our portal if you feel that's what's best for you. That link is here: https://mama-roo.loopreturns.com/#/

Thank you, and we will be in touch.

All the best,
Alexandra, Founder, Mama & Roo's
