Why would I want a soft structured carrier?
SSCs are the most familiar style of carrier for many US families. These “backpacks” go on like a traditional backpack. Buckle the waist and place your child in the panel. Then, pull panel up over the child, put your arms through the straps, and clip the chest clip. No tying or knots required!
Parents new to babywearing can ease into carrying with the familiar backpack style. Back carrying is simple, too – you do the same motion, just with your child on your back instead!
Cross strap options maximize the use of this carrier style. Crossed straps provide a different type of support and also allow for hip carries.
With comfort options and simple technique, SSCs are reassuring to caregivers.
A soft structured carrier’s biggest benefit is that the “seat” is already made. You'll need to make sure the height and width are set properly and that child is positioned well in the carrier. But, you don’t have to worry about the bottom “falling out.” This eliminates fear for parents nervous about fabric carriers like wraps and slings.

First, adjust your carrier's panel height and width. Adjust the height by using the pull tabs on the panel. Adjust the width by using the Velcro adjuster inside the waistband.
What panel adjustment should I use?
For width: Babies younger than 1yr old should be supported from knee to knee. Children 1yr or older should be supported at least mid-thigh to mid-thigh. Older babies can be supported knee-to-knee, but don't overextend. You want your child's legs to swing freely. Use the markings as a guide, but know that each child is unique. You may need to try different settings to find the width that works best for you.
For height:For babies who cannot yet support their head, make sure the panel height is no higher than the bottom of the ear and adequately supports baby's neck. For a child with adequate trunk support (usually around 6mon old), the top of the panel should be no lower than just below your child's armpits, and no higher than the bottom of the ear. Any lower and your child could toss themselves out by leaning backward! Any higher and you could interfere with your child's airway.
Convenient 2-way arm strap adjusters
Adjust the bottom of the shoulder straps to your desired tightness by either pulling up or pulling the other strap down.
Customize the Chest Clip
Slide the chest clip up or down the shoulder straps as it is comfortable for you. You can also loosen or tighten the chest clip as desired. If you're using the cross-strap option, you don't need to use the chest clip at all!
Cross them or ruck it
The arm straps can be unbuckled to cross the straps. This is a great comfort option for many caregivers. It can also make it easier to put the carrier on by yourself! Easily switch between ruck and cross-strap options for different outings or different caregivers.
Once you're adjusted, put your baby in the carrier
Front Carry:
Buckle the waistband with the velcro adjustment side facing you and the panel in front. Be sure to put the buckle through the elastic safety band before closing. This provides extra fall protection for your child.
Place your child into the panel, facing you. Center them in the panel, then lift the panel up over your child's back. To get the best fit, try to reduce slack in the panel by lifting the straps high in the air and gently bouncing your child into the panel. You want them to sit out in the panel, not on the waistband itself.
Method A - Put your arms through the ruck straps. Reach behind you to fasten the chest clip. The magnetic clip should fasten easily! Experiment with how loose you leave the straps, including the chest clip, before putting your child in the carrier, to see what's most comfortable for you. When buckled, use the webbing to tighten as is comfortable.
Method B - Alternate H method, if you can't reach behind your back to clip the chest clip: Prior to putting your child in the carrier, unclip the arm straps so they hang loose, and buckle the chest clip. When your child is in the panel, lift the straps over your head. Your head will go through the top of the "H," above the chest buckle, which you've already clasped. Once the straps are behind you, buckle each arm strap on its respective side. Don't forget to put the buckle through the elastic safety band before buckling
Method C - Cross-strap method: Prior to putting your child in the carrier, unclip the arm straps so they hang loose, and leave the chest clip unbuckled. With your child in the panel, lift the panel up over their back. One side at a time, lift the arm strap into the air above you, then pull firmly straight down your back. The reduces slack in the panel. Then, cross the strap behind your back to the opposite side and buckle the arm strap in. Do the same for the other strap. Don't forget to put the buckle through the safety elastic before buckling. In this method, you don't need to clip the chest clip- you can remove it completely if you'd like!

For typically developing babies, you can back or hip carry in the LennyLight SSC when your child has sufficient head and trunk control, usually around 4-6months old. Some sides of readiness include being able to tripod sit or when you're naturally placing your child on your hip in daily life.
Method 1:
Crossed arms
-Cross the arm of the shoulder you will bring your child over underneath the other arm. Use your hands to pin the top edge of the panel to your child in the position you want the carrier to be in when baby is up. So, if you want your child arms in, position the top of the panel and hold onto it at the top of your child's shoulder. For arms out, grab your child under the arms with the panel.
-Move your body into your child (as opposed to twisting your child to you). This will allow you to get your child up into the carrier without twisting the fabric.
Once your child is up:
-Hold tightly to the top of the carrier, pinning the straps with your chin or biting with your teeth. This takes practice!
-Pull the slack down with the bottom of the panel/waistband. Pulling it out can help! Stand up straight and allow gravity to help you. Buckle the waistband, making sure to use the elastic safety band
-Clip the chest clip
-Tighten the webbing as needed
-Gently move your child's bottom out into the panel, instead of sitting on the waistband. Hold the waistband where the pocket is, and try to keep the pocket straight up and down. Tighten the waistband while holding here. It's easier to tighten if you are lifting your child's weight off of the waistband. Gentle bouncing can also help
-Check to make sure the waistband strap is parallel to the floor. Gently adjust waistband, child in panel, and anything else as needed
Method 2:
Hip Scoot
-Buckle the waistband, making sure to use the elastic safety band. Position the panel on your hip on the side you would naturally carry your child. Typically this is slightly more forward on the hip
-Place your child in the panel. Center them in the panel
-When you're satisfied with you child's seat, use the opposite arm from where your child is sitting and put your arm through the arm strap. This is easier if the straps are a little looser prior to starting.
-Using momentum and the strap already on your opposite shoulder, scoot your child behind you. Use your other arm to support your child in the panel as they scoot
-Put your arm through the other strap. Clip the chest clip and adjust your child's position as needed
-Tighten the webbing as needed
-Gently move your child's bottom out into the panel, instead of sitting on the waistband. Hold the waistband where the pocket is, and try to keep the pocket straight up and down. -Lift the panel up over your child's back, lifting high to remove slack. Let them settle in to the panel
-Put your arms through the straps and clip the chest clip. Adjust your child's position as needed
-Tighten the webbing as needed
-Gently move your child's bottom out into the panel, instead of sitting on the waistband. Hold the waistband where the pocket is, and try to keep the pocket straight up and down. Will it fit your child?
Sizing is based your child's height/ pants size for length. Please note: adjustable panel carriers like the LennyLight SSC are hardest to fit at the smallest end of the range. This is because the fabric has to go somewhere, so it will have to be bunched under your child's bottom. The LennyLight is unique in that most of that fabric *will not* cause bulk! But, if you're having trouble getting your tiny newborn to fit properly, they'll likely fit better after a growth spurt.
Not sure if you should size up? We recommend staying in the smaller size (like the LennyLight SSC) until your child has grown out of it and is no longer comfortable. At that point you know your child will fit well in the larger preschool carrier!

Wrap conversions start out as long woven baby wraps. That fabric is then cut and sewn into a different type of baby carrier. This could be a ring sling, onbuhimo, meh dai, or SSC. Why does it matter?
Long woven wraps are made to carry babies.They're woven in a way that's soft and supportive. They're also breathable. Many wraps are made of easy-care materials.
Designs are woven into the fabric. No screen printing that fades. It's the real deal, straight from the loom!
Carriers that aren't made of long woven wraps are often more stiff. SSC carriers are commonly made with canvas or even plastic. These materials may be durable, but they aren't as comfortable or flexible. There isn't much airflow through the fabric, which can lead to overheating. Patterns are pressed onto the fabric as opposed to being a part of it.

Wrap conversions start out as long woven baby wraps. That fabric is then cut and sewn into a different type of baby carrier. This could be a ring sling, onbuhimo, meh dai, or SSC. Why does it matter?
Long woven wraps are made to carry babies.They're woven in a way that's soft and supportive. They're also breathable. Many wraps are made of easy-care materials.
Designs are woven into the fabric. No screen printing that fades. It's the real deal, straight from the loom!
Carriers that aren't made of long woven wraps are often more stiff. SSC carriers are commonly made with canvas or even plastic. These materials may be durable, but they aren't as comfortable or flexible. There isn't much airflow through the fabric, which can lead to overheating. Patterns are pressed onto the fabric as opposed to being a part of it.
Wrap conversion carriers are as strong and long-lasting as non-wrap conversion carriers. But, they have many other benefits! For the ultimate in comfort for you and your child, a wrap conversion baby carrier is the way to go.

I ordered this carrier a month plus in advance for my trip and although i was not aware that the return of exchange policy started once the item was shipped, i didnt receive my item until approximately 3 1/2 weeks after which gave me no time at all to exchange. I reached out and asked for some grace in this and unfortunately they were unable to help me and recommended for me to sell it on my own instead which im having no luck in. So its just a bummed situation. The material and carrier seems wonderful but useless as its too small for my toddler.

This thing is AMAZING! My daughter and I both are so happy while using it. I can get stuff done while front or back carrying her and she can snooze away with the comfort of her mama. This is everything I could have asked for! I needed a little extra hands on help to learn how to back carry, so don’t give up if at first it’s hard..it’s worth it! My only small complaint is the fabric doesn’t quite go down enough on the shoulder straps so the buckle straps rub under my armpit area sometimes. But it’s not hard to re-situate to fix it. (Plus I’m a 3x mama) The rainbow lotus is BEAUTIFUL. I ordered the little back pack bag so I could put it in there when not using but I accidentally ordered the wrong print (which I’m still crying over) and let me say…that rainbow lotus 🪷 is the best print they have! It’s so vibrant! It’s gorgeous. I will definitely have to order the rainbow lotus bag now because it makes my heart burst in happiness to see it. You will not be disappointed in the fabric. So high quality. The pocket by the way is AMAZING! I use it every time I carry her. I can shop with her and put my card and phone in the pocket (I have an iPhone pro max so it’s big) get this! Seriously.

I absolutely love this carrier, I only wish they came with hoods, but this was my first time buying lenny Lamb New, and the carrier already felt like broken in. I've bought used carriers and other brands just don't feel as soft and floppy as lenny

No Hood!!
This carrier does not have a hood, even though one is pictured in this item's photos (in grey color, and in jurassic, that is apparently not the same model). Matching hood reach straps are available but not a hood. This is incredibly frustrating, as I ordered it well in advance of my baby arriving and my return window is closed. Lesson learned on checking things over better right away.
I was told by customer service to sell it in a swap group, or use a receiving blanket. I spent a lot of money on this cute pattern, to have to be using a blanket for sun and wind protection.
I understand a hood might be available soon, but that's another unforseen cost.
The photo with hood should be removed from this item, and in bold letters it should say 'hood not included'.
To add to this, the clip between the shoulders is extremely difficult to operate. Almost impossible during crunch time, with a screaming newborn, for a new mom. It takes a lot of practice.
