Sometimes it's easier to show than tell!
Watch Mama & Roo's babywearing educator Amanda adjust her baby in the seat of her LennyLight for nursing.
To nurse your baby in a carrier, you'll want to loosen the waistband or waist pass slightly and wiggle your child down and to the side you are nursing from.
In a carrier like the LennyLight soft structured baby carrier, you'll likely need to loosen the arm straps as well.
Once you and your little one are comfortably positioned, go ahead and nurse!
You can use this same technique to get baby into position to bottle feed - you just may need to loosen a bit more.
Very important - always be attentive to your baby's airway and breathing, and move your child up to a safe babywearing position again as soon as they fall asleep.
Here's Amanda showing how to re-adjust your baby after nursing:
Although we do need to loosen the carrier and lower baby to nurse or bottle feed them, it's very important that we don't allow baby to sleep in this position or to stay there after they are done actively feeding. A baby can easily have a compromised airway in this position.
So, when nursing in a carrier, always be very aware of what they are doing, and as soon as they are done actively eating and/or have fallen asleep, bring them up high - close enough to kiss (and safely monitor their airway and breathing), and re-tighten to hold them in place. Check their body position so that it's comfortable and supported, and off you go!
