2-Way tightening

The shoulder straps can be tightened by pulling one strap towards you, or pulling the other side of the strap away from you

Perfect fit adjusters

Often referred to simply as PFAs. Another adjustment to get the perfect fit for you and your big kid. This will bring the panel up and down your back and also allow baby to go in and out from you. Don't be afraid to try different lengths.

Adjustable panel

The adjustable panel for width, allows for you to use this carrier for years. This will allow the fabric to go knee to knee as baby grows. Simply fit baby in and tie a knot in the stings when its the right size.

rated for 44lbs

Carry kids for longer than ever, with this carrier rated up to 44lbs!

Waistless carrier

There is no waistband with this carrier. This allows for parents with sensitive bellies to be able to comfortable carry thier child.

Great for Petite Parents

The onbuhimo style is loved by petite mamas who have a hard time fitting into an SSC because the waistband is too big.

Great for Plus size parents

The onbuhimo style is great for plus size mamas! There is no worry about the size of the waistband since there isn't one!

Tripod sitting

The onbuhimo requires the child to good "trunk" control. This is when baby is able to tripod sit. As soon as they do this, you can put them in the onbuhimo!

Baby/standard size is a universal size of the carrier - it will fit an infant (who can tripod sit) as well as an older child. We recommend this size for children from 4 months until 2T pant length

Recommended for kiddos who are wearing a 2t pant size and mamas who want a snug comfortable fit.

Preschool Size onbuhimo

Preschool

This carrier is much bigger than the toddler size. It will fit as small as 2T pants, but for parents who are small or only using this in the house, we recommend using this size when child is 3t-4t in pant length.

*Improtant information*

If you have never used an Onbuhimo, be prepared to practice with this carrier style. It is a more challenging style of carrier to use. It takes some patience and practice. Most people do not get it right the first time.

Fit-check photos can be posted in our Facebook group, or emailed to us. We have a group of others who will gladly help give you some tips and tricks, and sometimes they have a faster response time.

The Onbuhimo carrier is not the perfect style of carrier for everyone. You will only be using your shoulders to support your baby. The best way that we can explain how this carrier will feel on your body is to describe it as a bookbag packed full of books. If carrying a bookbag full of books would hurt your back soon after putting it on, we highly recommend looking at an SSC-style carrier like the LennyLight.

This style carrier may cost a little bit more but offers much more support since it has a waistband. The waistband will allow your whole torso to support your child’s weight. The SSC-style carrier also makes getting a comfortable fit for the caregiver and child much easier.

We hope this helps! Please reach out if you have any questions.

My favorite carrier for older baby.

I was bought a Tula carrier, hated the belt but lived the functionality. Did some research, if they had something that could be backpack and on front. I found this and with a bunch of hesitation, I ordered it.
I proceeded to message them to cancel the order I was second guessing my decision of the color, given I have a son. They replied back by next day ready to cancel my order, I decided to not cancel and keep with the order. Very friendly! Then I realized I needed it sooner being that I ordered a print that was a preorder, that it could take a while to receive. They assured me it would be here within a few weeks and it was.
So glad I chose this carrier and their site is affiliate with a payment plan which I took advantage of so wasn’t so much of a blow financially at once.
Overall beautiful carrier I use it for my 10 month old son (which fits him and me on the smallest setting in backpack style) to breastfeed and put him to sleep, then flop him on my back asleep while I do chores. It took me about a week to kinda get the hang of the adjustments and now I do it quickly and with ease.

Great for pregnant women

I’m 17 weeks pregnant and although my 1yr old would rather walk than being carried, this helps a lot during those clingy moments where he wants to be held but my hips are tired or I have things to do. This was a great purchase for me!

This carrier is very complicated to use and terribly uncomfortable on my back and shoulders. My son is 42lbs and I could feel most of that weight. He told me it hurt his leg and was not comfortable for him. It also looked very unflattering as it pulled and just didn’t sit right. Worst of all is their shipping and return policy. Free shipping on $150 or more and then having the audacity to have an item be $149.99 is really just gross. Paying for shipping because of 1 cent and now having to pay again to return. Makes it hard to support a business like this….amazon.com to find a new carrier as I at least can send it back for free if it does not fit..

Uncomfortable and bad costumer service

My auto fill out in the incorrect address when I put in the shipping information. Therefore the package got returned. I got in touch with Mama and roo (they are sluggish to respond to emails, usually a day or two after I would send) and they made me pay for shipping again (despite getting a free offer for free shipping 24 hours after originally ordering). So I paid for shipping twice, which was absolutely not worth it. The carrier itself is uncomfortable, especially around the shoulders. I have tried to adjust it many ways. And now I can't return it without paying for shipping a third time. I definitely wouldn't order this again or recommend to a friend, and certainly not through this company. If you try to use their YouTube tutorial half of the video is just an advertisement for their products, and the instruction is extremely subpar.

Hi Natalie,

I'm sorry that you were frustrated with the carrier and service you received. Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing if an address is incorrect unless the post office flags it when we make the label. Yours was accepted as an address by USPS when we made the label, so we paid to ship your order to the, unfortunately incorrect, address you provided.

We are a very small company, so 1-2 business days for a reply is not unusual. We spent time in-between replies to you trying to troubleshoot what had happened with the post office and with the tech issues you were experiencing. Sometimes we simply don't have a reply until we can get an answer elsewhere- this way we aren't just sending constant non-answers to customers regarding their concerns.

The free shipping offer you received was to add to your order prior to it shipping out- it was not to place an additional order. We can certainly review the content of our automated emails to make that clearer in the future.

Again, the only reason you were charged an additional shipping fee was because we had to pay to ship the order out twice- once to the incorrect address you provided, and a second time to the correct address. As a very small company, we simply can't absorb all of the costs associated with shipping when the error is not ours. We do, however, work as quickly as possible to resolve them, and it looks like we had this taken care of for you within 2 weeks, including a federal holiday.

Regarding the carrier being uncomfortable- I can definitely understand your frustration! The onbuhimo is the most challenging carrier style we have, and it definitely doesn't work for everyone. It looks like our quiz made recommendations for styles other than the onbuhimo for you. While the quiz is helpful, we are also happy to provide custom recommendations as to which style would work better for you. Please feel free to send an email to contact@mama-roo.com, or message us via the chat, and we will help you one-on-one.

Regarding the tutorial videos, I'm not sure which tutorials you are referring to, but we do have 2 different onbuhimo tutorials on this page here: mama-roo.com/collections/onbuhimo. Often one or the other will resonate better for a customer, so I encourage you to take a look at them to see if one is helpful to you. You are also welcome to send us photos for a fit check, or to post photos for a fit check in our helpful and welcoming Facebook group here: facebook.com/groups/mamaandroos.

It looks like you are in our return window, and we offer no-fee exchanges if you'd like to try something else. You can access the returns portal for a return or exchange here: https://mama-roo.loopreturns.com/#/
You can access our return policy here: https://mama-roo.com/policies/refund-policy

Thank you again for your feedback. I hope we can help you to find the perfect carrier for you!

If we can assist with anything else, please let us know. We do apologize for any inconvenience, and we wish you the best in your babywearing journey.

All the best,
Alexandra

Onbuhimo - pastels

I love how soft and beautifully crafted my onbuhimo is. The straps are a good sturdy quality and the fabric itself feels so nice. I also purchased the suck pads which of course are so useful!
